On 6 July, we celebrated the 91st birthday of the Dalai Lama, one of the Global Tree Initiative’s greatest sources of inspiration!
For decades, the Dalai Lama has reminded the world that caring for nature is not only an environmental responsibility but also a moral and spiritual one. His teachings emphasize the deep interconnectedness of all life, encouraging us to protect forests, preserve biodiversity, live more sustainably, and take meaningful action to address climate change.
The Dalai Lama reminds us that “Although we do not believe that trees or flowers have minds, we treat them also with respect. Thus we share a sense of universal responsibility for both mankind and nature.”
This year’s birthday was celebrated by thousands of devotees and well-wishers in Leh, Ladakh, where the Dalai Lama once again inspired people through his enduring message of peace, compassion, and universal responsibility.

The Dalai Lama on his 91st birthday
We thank the Dalai Lama for his lifelong commitment to compassion, wisdom, and the protection of our shared planet. His example continues to inspire millions of people around the world to live with kindness, mindfulness, and respect for nature.
We wish the Dalai Lama good health, happiness, and many more years of sharing your wisdom with the world!
If you planted a tree (or trees) in celebration of the Dalai Lama’s birthday, please tell us about it. We would love to write a story about your tree-planting, in celebration of this special day!
