Global Tree Initiative (GTI) is excited to announce a new partnership with Foundation Sanite Jeanty Haiti to create a Tiny Food Forest at the foundation’s orphanage in Porrier, Haiti.
Together, we are working to create a greener, more sustainable environment where children can learn about Mother Nature, connect with the natural world, and benefit from fresh food grown on their own land.
Phase One of the project is already underway!
Growing a Tiny Food Forest
With support from GTI, Foundation Sanite Jeanty Haiti is developing an approximately one-acre area into a Tiny Food Forest, with plans to plant around 2,000 fruit and shade trees, alongside bananas, plantains, vegetables, and root crops.
Beyond providing fresh food for the children, the project aims to create a welcoming green space for learning and community participation. Through hands-on activities, children will have opportunities to discover how trees, plants, soil, water, and people are connected.

Work Is Already Underway!
Judith Lucien, the President of Foundation Sanite Jeanty Haiti, recently shared an exciting update on the progress:
“We’re currently building the perimeter gate around the land for the plantation. Starting next week, we’ll begin preparing the land and setting up the irrigation system ahead of planting.”
These preparations mark an important step towards establishing the Tiny Food Forest. The team is also gathering photographs of the land, the orphanage, the children, and the surrounding community in Porrier, giving our global community a closer look at the people and place behind this project.
