On the 30th of March, we observe and celebrate the International Day of Zero Waste. This day is also acknowledged by the United Nations. As part of our collaboration with the United Nations’ Decade of Eco-Restoration, we take great joy in sharing this story below.

Manica Youth Assembly (MAYA) Joins Nationwide Clean-Up Efforts

In line with the national declaration of the first week of every month as a clean-up period, Manica Youth Assembly (MAYA) joined forces with government ministries, schools, private sector representatives, and community members at Old Rank Mutare during the first week of March for the National Clean-Up Day.

Zimbabwe, like many countries, faces challenges with plastic waste management, with plastic litter affecting our environment, waterways, and wildlife. Initiatives like these help tackle the issue and promote a cleaner, healthier environment.

MAYA, a youth-led organization focused on environmental conservation and community development, is committed to promoting a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment in Manicaland. This monthly clean-up initiative aligns with our mission to empower communities and protect the environment.

Together with other stakeholders, we cleaned up the Old Rank area and promoted environmental responsibility. We also participated in a tree-planting exercise at the Mutare District Administrator’s Office, reinforcing our commitment to restoring and protecting the environment. Trees play a vital role in mitigating climate change, supporting biodiversity, and ensuring a sustainable future for Zimbabwe.

This initiative highlights the power of partnerships in building cleaner communities and a greener future. We’re proud to work with stakeholders to promote a healthy and sustainable environment in Manicaland.
